Siekman Network is an independent network. It is an autonomous system with its own ASN, its own provider-independent IP address space and its own routing policy. It is not part of an ISP, nor does it use borrowed addresses: the network determines for itself what it announces, with whom it peers and via whom it purchases transit.

The network is managed from the Netherlands and has been built in accordance with standard industry practices for operators: it is registered in the RIPE Database, RPKI-signed, has an open peering policy and a contactable NOC.

Upstream

The transit route runs via ColoClue (AS8283), the Dutch network association based in Amsterdam. They provide upstream connectivity and are also the sponsoring LIR for the ASN and the PI space.

Peering policy

Siekman Network has an open peering policy.

  • IPv6 sessions via BGP, with MD5 or TCP-AO on request
  • Peers register their routes in an IRR and have RPKI ROAs where possible
  • Invalid RPKI routes are filtered
  • Bogons, default routes and prefixes longer than /48 are not accepted
  • Siekman Network only announces 2001:67c:a90::/48 with origin AS218506
  • A maximum prefix limit is desirable on both sides
  • No contract, no minimum traffic ratio

Interested in peering? Please email noc@siekman.io with your ASN, your IRR AS-set and the location or IXP where you wish to peer. Current locations can be found on PeeringDB.

Roadmap

The network is growing. Here’s what’s planned:

  • POPs: more locations in addition to ColoClue
  • Looking Glass: public insight into the routes of AS218506
  • Status page: network outages and maintenance, alongside the site’s existing status page
  • Public DNS: an open resolver on our own prefix

This page will be updated as soon as anything goes live.
